๑Preface, on the country between two seas
Thailand sits between the Andaman and the Gulf, two seas with their own moods and shoulders. And a third country in the north made entirely of teak forest and hill villages. What you pack depends entirely on which Thailand you came for. A first-timer's Bangkok-and-Phuket trip is the same week as a returning visitor's slow loop through Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son, and both are right.

A small note
on how we work.
Tibro has been routing Thailand since 2001, before the floods of 2011 changed how Bangkok thinks about its river.
We work with two partner studios. One in Bangkok run by Nat (a former hotelier who left a Mandarin Oriental food-and-beverage post to design trips), one in Chiang Mai run by Wirat (whose family has owned a teak guest-house in the old city since 1962). Both are family-held, both have been with us for over a decade.
Hotels in Thailand are competitive on rate and uneven on the room behind the brochure. We will tell you which Aman has the best pool light in which month, and which boutique on a Hua Hin headland is currently between general managers. Context that matters more than star-counts.
Nineteen routes is our shape. We add a route when one of our partners has slept in a new property and edited the days.

Bangkok & Andaman, ten nights, February 2025
We did Bangkok for three nights and then ferried out to Koh Yao Noi for the rest, and at the end of the third Bangkok day Nat from the studio met us at our hotel with a hand-written list of restaurants she had vetted that week. The trip ran on those notes. She also moved our island ferry up by a day when the wind forecast turned. We did not feel routed. We felt accompanied.

Northern Thailand, eight nights, November 2024
Wirat in Chiang Mai paced us slower than I would have planned for myself. Two nights at a teak lodge outside the city; a half-day at an elephant sanctuary whose ethics he had personally verified; one full day in Pai with no agenda. We came home with no photographs we needed to show off, and the most settled sleep we have had on a holiday in years.

Koh Samui for two nights, Koh Pha Ngan for the rest, and at no point did we use the phone for anything other than music. Tibro had quietly arranged a private boat between the islands when the public ferry would have been a three-hour ordeal with our luggage. Small things. Right things.
