Tibro

    Iceland,
    in pieces.

A journey around an island that does not, in any honest sense, have a high season.

Preface, on a country with two seasons and no shoulder

Iceland is a road and a weather report. The Ring, the rental, the rain that arrives twice between breakfast and lunch. The country has two seasons that matter. The summer in which the sun does not set, and the winter in which it barely rises. And almost nothing in between worth planning a trip around. So we plan for one or the other, and let the gap stay a gap.

    A small note
    on how we work.

Tibro has been routing Iceland since 2014, when our first travellers asked us for it and we admitted we did not have a person there yet. We do now.

Iceland is small enough that the studio works with two driver-guides directly. Sigrún out of Reykjavík for the south and west, Bjarni out of Akureyri for the north and east. They are not employees; they are partners we have worked with continuously for eight years.

Hotels in Iceland are honest about themselves. We pick farm-stays for the Ring, design hotels for Reykjavík, and one specific lodge in the Westfjords whose name we will share with travellers and not with the public internet.

One route is everything. We refuse to write more until either the country changes or the people who live there do.

Two letters from the last eighteen months. Iceland gets shorter notes than India does, but the ratio of returners is higher.

South Coast & Vík, seven nights, February 2025

We came for the aurora and got it on the third night for fourteen minutes, and Sigrún our driver was the one who saw it first and pulled the car over and turned the headlights off without saying anything. Everything Tibro had quietly briefed us about. The photography order, the hot-water bottle in the rental, the back-up plan if the lights did not show. Turned out to be the trip.

Ring Road full circuit, twelve nights, July 2024

Twelve nights, one road, almost no agenda. The studio quietly threaded farm-stays between the obvious hotels so the drive felt like it slowed down somewhere new each evening. We saw a humpback at Húsavík and a puffin at Látrabjarg and a road sign that said 'Beware sheep' for two hundred kilometres. We have already asked Tibro about the Westfjords for next year.

Tell us when you want the light.
    We will route around it.

Two questions decide an Iceland trip: which season, and which Ring segment. Send us your dates and we will pair you with Sigrún or Bjarni and route the right segment for the right week.
