Preface, on the island that is the whole country

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago, but for travellers who fly in from Mumbai or Delhi, the country is Bali. Three Balis, really. The rice-terrace inland around Ubud, the resort coast at Nusa Dua and Seminyak, and the volcano-coast loop that combines them. Pick which Bali, and the trip writes itself. Java, Yogyakarta, Komodo. These are the longer-stay add-ons for the second visit.

    A small note
    on how we work.

Tibro has been routing Bali since 2010. Fifteen years of honeymoon trips, family resort holidays, yoga-retreat weeks, and the occasional volcano-loop. We treat Bali as three islands, not one; the trip works when the format matches the side you came for.

We work with a Denpasar-based partner studio run by Wayan (originally a Four Seasons Ubud guide) and a Seminyak liaison for the beach-coast properties. Wayan personally clears every Tibro arrival at the airport and texts us when bags transit.

Hotels in Bali are a tropical-tear problem. Properties that look identical in the brochures behave very differently a year on. We retire one property a year from the list because it has slipped, and we add one only after Wayan has stayed there in the dry season.

Twelve routes is what we currently maintain. The Malaysia-Bali combo and the Java-Yogyakarta add-on are the two routes growing fastest. The next time we update this page it will probably have fifteen.

Ubud & Nusa Dua split, six nights, April 2024

Three Ubud nights in an open-walled villa above a rice terrace, three Nusa Dua nights in a beach resort with a calm-water bay. The order was the studio's call. Ubud first, coast after. And it was right. Wayan met us at Denpasar and walked us to the car without us seeing the queue. We are coming back next April to do the volcano loop.

Best of Bali, five nights, December 2024

Honeymoon trip. The studio had us at the right property at the right phase of the moon. Conrad Nusa Dua for the first three, an Ubud retreat for the last two. A private dawn at Pura Lempuyang on day four with no other tourists; Wayan had timed it for the gap between two cruise-ship arrivals. Detail like that is why we will use Tibro again.

Beautiful Bali Luxury Multi-Hotel, six nights, September 2024

Three properties in six nights, which sounds exhausting and was not. The studio handled the moves; we just got into a car. The Seminyak property the studio chose had us at a private beach the night the moon was full. Half a kilometre from the beach clubs and another world entirely. Twelve years of travel and this was the best-coordinated trip.

    Tell us which Bali,
    and how many nights.

Two questions decide a Bali trip: which side, and how many nights. Wayan in Denpasar will write back inside the working day with properties held on a tentative.

    . write back.
