    Preface, on a country that invented the word

    Greece is, technically, where we got the word for it. Three days for Athens. The Acropolis at eight in the morning, before the heat. And three or four for the islands, with Santorini in the rotation if it's your first time. Six to seven nights for the classic Greece; a full fortnight if you arc through Eastern Europe afterwards. Best between mid-April and June, or September into October; August in the Cyclades is for travellers who like a crowd.

    A small note
    on how we work.

    Tibro has been routing Greece since 2014. Eleven years of Athens bases, Santorini afternoons, Mykonos mornings, and the Eastern-Europe arcs that start at the Acropolis and finish in Copenhagen.

    We work with an Athens-based partner desk run by Eleni (originally a Benaki Museum curator) and a separate Cycladic ferry coordinator who handles the high-speed Blue Star and Seajets crossings between Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos.

    Hotels in Santorini are a caldera-or-not problem. The Imerovigli edge-of-cliff for the first time, the Oia-village boutiques for the second, an Akrotiri lighthouse property for the third. Athens is a Plaka-or-Kolonaki decision; we hold rooms in both.

    Five routes is what we currently maintain. The Best of Greece six-night Athens-Santorini is the most-requested; we route the high-speed ferry on day three (not day four) because the morning sea is the smoother window.

    Two Athens nights, three Santorini, one back in Athens for the late flight. Eleni at the Athens desk routed us into the Acropolis at half past eight on day one with a Benaki guide who used to be a colleague. That morning was the trip. Santorini was the rest. The Imerovigli hotel facing the caldera was the studio's pick and an indulgence we are grateful they made.

    Athens for two, Mykonos for two, Santorini for three. The studio's reasoning. That Mykonos in the middle works as the party-then-quiet pivot. Was correct in a way only experience gives. A morning sailing day in Santorini on day six was the unexpected best moment. Came home wanting Crete next time.
