    Portugal is a small country at the Atlantic edge that punches well above its size in light, food, and tile. Lisbon is the obvious centre. Three days walks you from the Sé to Belém by trolley and yellow tram. Three days for the city, two for Sintra, two for Porto, and a week if you want Spain on the same trip. Best between April and June or September to October; July-August Algarve is for travellers who like a crowd.

    A small note
    on how we work.

    Tibro has been routing Portugal since 2015. Ten years of Lisbon bases, Porto port-house afternoons, Sintra day-trips, and the Spain-Portugal grand tours that travellers come back wanting to do again.

    We work with a Lisbon-based partner desk run by Mariana (originally a Gulbenkian curator) and a separate Porto coordinator who has worked with the same four port-houses since 2018 and can get our travellers into private cellars on a Tuesday.

    Hotels in Lisbon are a Chiado-or-not problem. The Pombaline traditionals around the Bairro Alto for the first time, the river-facing modern for the second. We hold rooms at six properties year-round and pick by traveller.

    Six routes is what we currently maintain. The Iberian classic seven-night Madrid-Lisbon is the most-requested; we route the AVE high-speed train from Madrid to Lisbon because the four-hour journey is the prettiest middle of an Iberia trip.

    Three Madrid nights, four Lisbon, with a Toledo day on day two and a Sintra day on day six. Mariana at the Lisbon desk routed our Sintra day at six in the morning so we had Pena to ourselves for the first hour. The yellow trolley up to the Castelo on day seven. Her suggestion. Was the moment the trip became Lisbon-specific. Came home wanting the Spain side longer next time.

    Madrid, Toledo day, Sevilla, AVE to Lisbon, Porto for the back. Ten nights felt right for ten cities of pace. The Porto Douro morning. A private boat to Pinhão for the harvest morning. Was the studio's idea and we would never have built it ourselves. The Tibro Lisbon-Porto rail timings were the kind of detail that quietly makes a trip work.

    Fourteen nights, six cities, one coordinator. Mariana picked up the phone at five thirty in the morning when our Cascais driver was delayed and had a replacement at the door inside twenty minutes. The Algarve three days the studio routed in were a Tibro call we hadn't asked for and we are grateful they made.
