Canada is the second-largest country in the world, and you can do most of it from three bases. The Rockies in the west are the picture-postcard week; the eastern corridor from Toronto through Niagara to Ottawa-Montréal is the second; Vancouver and Vancouver Island the Pacific third. Three Rockies days, two on the Icefields Parkway, two on either coast. Best between June and October, with September the quietest month on the Rocky lakes.

A small note
on how we work.
Tibro has been routing Canada since 2018. Seven years of Banff weeks, Vancouver Island weekends, and the Rocky Mountaineer twelve-night arcs that travellers come back wanting to do in winter for the snow.
We work with a Banff-based partner desk run by Daniel (originally a Parks Canada interpreter who can name every peak on the Icefields Parkway in order) and a Toronto coordinator for the eastern corridor.
Hotels in Banff are a townsite-or-Lake-Louise problem. The townsite for restaurants and the gondola, Lake Louise for the morning canoe and the Fairmont. We hold rooms at five properties year-round and pick by traveller.
Three routes is what we currently maintain. The Calgary-to-Vancouver ten-night is the most-requested; we route Banff in the middle so the Icefields Parkway sits on the second-third day when the weather has settled.

Canadian Rockies, nine nights, September 2024
Calgary into Banff, three Banff nights, two Lake Louise, two Jasper, Calgary out. Daniel had us at the Moraine Lake parking lot at five fifty AM on the second day. Almost empty. The Icefields Parkway on day six with his commentary on every glacier was the drive the trip will be remembered for. Came home wanting a Vancouver leg on the next visit.

Trans-Canada rail, fourteen nights, July 2024
Toronto for three, Niagara day, train through Ottawa-Montréal, flight to Banff, Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver, three Vancouver. The Rocky Mountaineer two-day section the studio booked was the GoldLeaf glass-domed carriage. The studio had warned us it was worth the upgrade, and they were right.
